NIO Showcases ESG Commitment at COP29
IO proudly participates in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP29) held from November 11 to 22 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and provides premium mobility services for heads of state and government, as well as distinguished guests from around the world.
The United Nations Climate Change Conferences have been held annually since 1995, in efforts to unite the global actions to combat climate change. This year, COP29 has brought together leaders from governments, businesses, and civil society with a focus on advancing goals of the Paris Agreement and facilitating international cooperation for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
NIO has been honored to participate in COP29 as an esteemed representative of China’s new energy sector and a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). During a side event themed “Green and Low-Carbon Development of China's Automobiles” at the China Pavilion, Grace ZANG, Head of NIO’s Corporate Quality and ESG & Sustainability departments, delivered a keynote speech titled “NIO ESG Sustainability Strategic Thoughts and Approaches”, sharing NIO’s commitment to sustainable development.
As an industry-leading smart EV company with a mission to shape a sustainable and brighter future for the blue skies, NIO champions sustainable development and fair energy transition through its innovative EV products and business models. As a UNGC member since 2016, NIO upholds the organization’s ten principles on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. In 2023, NIO became China’s first EV company to join the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and completed the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) questionnaire, proving its firm commitment to carbon peaking and neutrality.
Grace ZANG introduced NIO’s sustainability practices and carbon footprint management along the product value chain and throughout the product lifecycle. At every stage – design, production, logistics, delivery and experience – NIO engages its value chain partners to jointly build green and low-carbon smart EV products. Attaching importance to environmental protection and ecological conversation, NIO not only works with partners to reduce their impacts on the ecosystems, but also furthers its sustainable practices in biodiversity together with its users and other stakeholders through projects such as Clean Parks initiative. So far, Clean Parks has rolled out 17 collaboration projects worldwide.
Through its participation in COP29, NIO not only showcases its latest achievements in sustainable development, but also demonstrates its commitment to accelerating the adoption of smart EVs and high-quality development of China’s EV industry. As an active player in international climate governance, NIO will continue to collaborate with all parties to promote the low-carbon and sustainable transformation of the automotive industry, contributing to the Paris Agreement.
